Mary Alice McLarty

Ms. McLarty is a partner in McLarty Pope, L.L.P. in Dallas, Texas. She is licensed in Texas, District of Columbia, U. S. 5th Circuit and U. S. Supreme Court. She is a 2004 graduate of Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming which was founded by nationally known trial lawyer, Gerry Spence.

Ms. McLarty is President of American Association for Justice (AAJ) [formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America {ATLA®}]. A member of AAJ since 1984, Ms. McLarty was appointed to the Board of Trustees National College of Advocacy (NCA) in 2009. She served on the Executive Committee from 2004 - 2005 and 2006 - 2009. She has been a faculty member of the Trial Advocacy College of Texas - 2001 - 2004 and 2010.

Ms. McLarty has been working on RSD/CRPS cases since the 1980s. She participated in Medical Conference, International Update of RSD/CRPS, University of South Florida, February 2001. (Only lawyer attending medical conference - received 7 hours credit for continuing medical education). And she has attended a medical conference on RSD/CRPS at Northwestern University Rehabilitation Institute in Chicago. She has served two terms as Chair of the RSD/CRPS Litigation Group of AAJ.

She has been featured in the Texas Justice book published in 2004 and named Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine, 2004 - 2010. She was the 1991 Recipient of the George Woods NAACP Civil Rights Award given in recognition of her pro bono work on a desegregation case. She is recipient of AAJ's 2009 and 2010 Distinguished Service Award, the 2002 Marie Lambert Award, and is a five-time recipient of the Wiedemann-Wysocki Citation of Excellence. In 2009, she also received the TTLA Don Bowen Distinguished Service Award. She is recipient of the prestigious Louise Raggio Award presented by the Dallas Women's Bar Association for her significant contribution toward the advancement of women in the legal profession.

Community and Volunteer Service

After the tragedy of the the 9-11 terrorist attacks, Ms. McLarty participated in a pro bono (for free) program, Trial Lawyers Care, Inc., which serving with over a thousand other attorneys across the nation, representing the victims of the 9-11 tragedy to receive adequate compensation from the 9-11 fund enacted by Congress in September 2001.

While in Lubbock, she chaired the Domestic Violence Task Force several times, which formulated policy and procedures between the police department, district attorneys office, hospitals and womens shelters. As an expert in hazing and bullying, she spoke on the subject to a national teachers and educators group at their conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ms. McLarty has also served on the Texas state board of the American Cancer Society.

Ms. McLarty volunteered with the DTLA/Dallas Bar Assn project at the Dallas Convention center to help the Katrina New Orleans evacuees.

Professional recognition and service

Ms. McLarty has been a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) since 1984, where she has served on the Board of Directors from 1986 - present, Executive Committee - 2006-2007, Chair of the Ethics/Grievance Committee for three years.. She has been a member of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association (DTLA) since 1996, where she served as President, 2003 - 2004 and has been on the Board of Directors from 1997 - present. Ms. McLarty was President of the South Plains Trial Lawyers from 1991 - 1992 in Lubbock and served on that Board of Directors from 1986 - 1993.

National Television and Radio Appearances:

Ms. McLarty has appeared in an nationally broadcasted program, Encounters with the Unexplained, PAX Network, episode entitled “Hospital Negligence - Will the Hospital Cure You or Kill You?” She has been interviewed several times by NPR and has been featured on the Terry Lowry nationally syndicated radio show “What’s Up.”

Ms. McLarty is a frequent speaker for AAJ and state lawyers associations. She has spoken at seminars in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Mississippi, New Jersey, Florida, West Virginia and Wyoming trial lawyers organizations. She concentrates her practice on RSD/CRPS cases, hazing cases, premises liability injuries, trucking accidents, construction site accidents and severe injury litigation. She is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
